Slide! And slide.

Not only does Jordan love the slide, it is the only thing he likes at the park.

Besides dogs. And other children.

Swings? Noooooooo! Swings are torture! Noooooo swinging!

Those little bouncy animal things on springs? That other children like? Terrible! Haaaaaateful. Why would we even do that to him?

Sliiiiide! The slide is where we want to be. So we slide. And slide.

Me, I've been on a slightly less fun slide into exhaustion.

I don't know what it is, but I'm tired. All. The. Time.

I don't mean just the normal I'm-a-mom tired. This is like a whole nother layer of tired on top of that.

Sometimes I can't fall asleep. Or I wake up at 4 am and am awake for an hour or so. Those next day tireds make sense.

But some nights I lie down and sleep until morning. It doesn't really seem to matter, though.

Even with a full night of sleep, I wake up unrefreshed and exhausted. I slog through the day in a fog, eager for Jordan to nap so I can, or eager for the workday to end so I can come home, eat, and go to bed.

I don't know if you've read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell? If so, it's kind of like those characters who have to dance all night in the Faerie kingdom of Lost Hope and then sleepwalk blankly through the motions in their day lives. And if not, uh, that's still kind of what it's like.

It's tedious, it really is.

  1. Maybe this is part of the seasonal angst you mentioned, L. When I'm feeling dark...I am also usually very tired round the clock in spite of 'adequate' sleep. Seems to go with the general malaise.

That or maybe your iron or Vitamin D levels are low? Either one of those can do it too.

  2. Things will quiet down and you'll be able to sleep again. Then will come teen ager climbing out the window and you'll be up all night again. It goes in cycles.

  3. Ick. I hate the non-stop tired. I hope you find some sleep soon, lady.

  4. Stevie - I've actually got the fall blues under control. I'm in good spirits - just so very tired.

JoeinVegas - Oh, god. I totally snuck out and did all kinds of things I wasn't allowed. I'm sure my kid will as well. Fret fret!

Hillary - Yah, it's dreadful. Thanks!

  5. I'm so sorry. Deep in your bones tired, not wanting to move tired. I've been there. And I don't have any good tips for getting out of it. I just know that eventually, it passes. Hang in there.

  6. I recognize that slide. That bouncy thing will have more appeal eventually. Benji used to ride the duck near our old apartment like it was a bronco. He wanted us to sit and watch him ride it as "fast" as he could.
Dan's mom passed on a good rule of thumb she got from Dan's aunt to me: if a kid can't access or climb on to the equipment by themselves, they are not ready to use it. Makes good basic sense.
Hope you get less tired soon. It is tiresome being tired. Especially when you don't have the option to give in.
Also, didn't mean to get so ranty about "fashion rules" yesterday. I had a lot of housework I didn't want to do and not enough sleep. Just can't seem to catch up on either one lately, seems to be a connection.

  7. There are few things worse than that awful exhaustion. It's...for lack of a better word, exhausting. I hope it's just a phase, perhaps part of the season change?

Also, the story of Jordan loving the slide (but not the swings!) totally reminds me of this:

Here's a thought... Could you be pregnant??? :)
That would make you tired all the time... hmmmm...
I hope that this passes. I know what you mean about being tired. Having kids totally knocks you off your feet. Hang in there, kiddo! xoxo

  9. ok get your patooty off to your Drs and have some tests, you could be lacking in iron or something that can make you feel constantly tired. I had a constant tired thing a while back and it turned out I was magnesium deficient and so magnesium tablets for the heltheries shop put me right again. Or you could be preggers maybe??

  10. If only we could all be like Jordan. Energetically throwing ourselves front first down a slide, grinning like crazy, not a care in the world, living in the moment. Jordan is my new role model.

  11. This is so weird- I'm 200 pages into JS and Mr N right now. And loving it. Poor Stephen! And poor you. You don't even get the dancing and drinking with the fae out of it.

    Hugs, lady friend.

  12. Kate - That's a good description, the in your bones tired.

Maude - Yah, you know that slide well. We have tons of fun on that slide. And then we gnaw on the wood chips at the bottom.

That's very good advice. Makes a lot of sense.

As for the fashion rant, it's OK. It's seemingly impossible to stay on top of sleep or housework. Especially when you never get enough sleep to have the energy to get housework done.

Stevie - Hahaha! I didn't see that episode. (And I'd forgotten how much Rachel irritated me!) I particularly like the "taking Emma to the museum of knives and fire."

Monique - Nope, not preg. Definitely not. A couple friends have suggested out of whack hormones, and I'm totally going to get that checked out.

Go-Betty - I am absolutely making an appointment Monday. There is something going on. And it's not pregnancy. Swear to God.

Nicole - I know! Isn't that awesome? I love love love how he just launches himself down.

LiLu - I loved that book! And I don't know many people who've read it! So glad you're reading it! I know - none of the night fun, all of the day tired and vague. Bleah. Thanks, dear.
