Two countries, 12 weeks. Alike or not?

So, somewhere in my pregnancy, when we were discussing naming India India, I realized that if we did so, we would inadvertently have given both children names of countries.

I wasn't so hung up on this as I was on the fret that people would think the name India was just too weird. Which was why she didn't have a name for the first 24 hours. It would've been more normal to go with Lillian as her first name, but I didn't want to wind up with her being called Lily, much as I like the (now very popular) name.

Very few people have pointed the country thing out, though, for which I am glad, because it's not like we were trying to cover the globe with our progeny.

It's a name that elicits reactions. People make it clear that they like the name or think it's bizarre.

"India! What a pretty name!"

"India? Huh. That's different."

One of our neighbors remembered her name as Asia. I put him in the camp of geographically in the correct area and not-so-much on the India name.

This is fine with me. I wanted an unusual name for her, and I think it's pretty. I've said before that the only thing I particularly like about Lisa is that everywhere I've traveled, people have been able to pronounce it.

Anyway, this wasn't going to be about the names. Rather, I was heading for a comparison of my two kids at approximately 12 weeks of age.

I've got Indi in a lot of pinkaliciousness, but in this picture here, she's wearing a shirt of Jordan's that I saved because I love it so.

The top two are my Indi girl, and the bottom two are my Jordan.

Alike or not?

  1. I say alike - though where Jordan looks determined, India looks mischeivous.

    1. Determined! Ha - that's a good word for him, actually!

  2. Ohh, they're precious, lovely little ones! I think they look alike, especially the forehead and eyebrow area. I see your expression in the second photo of India, definitely a resemblance to Mom Lisa, too.

I think the name India is perfect for your daughter - unique, meaningful to you and a beautiful name that's easy to pronounce and spell. It's pretty. I'm a huge Gone With the Wind fan so it's a name I'd heard once before with the character of India Wilkes. I didn't think of Jordan as a geographic place but did with India.

    1. I love that you think there are bits of me in India. Jordan is all Nick, and I want some of me in my child!

Yes - I loved India Wilkes's name! She was the first India I'd heard of, and it stuck with me.

    1. I see it in the round faces but their personalities are so different that it's hard for me to see beyond that.

  4. alike... but different, if that makes sense. they definitely look like siblings (at least at these stages) but he looks exactly like your husband and her not so much... which i would suspect is a good thing for a girl. she's definitely got more Lisa to her but she's unmistakably a combination of you two.

and i love the name. i'd never heard it before you guys announced it. of course now i've heard it twice and i never did make the country correlation until now. still a beautiful combination of names.

    1. Well, I like that they look like siblings but she's got some me to her. And thanks - I do love the name(s)!

  5. They look so much alike! I thought the second one was Jordan at first, but probably the shirt threw me off.

I love the name India and I love the nickname Indi. And I like its connotation with indie as in independent.

    Also, Asia! Hahaha!

    1. Yes! I like the independent connotation as well! Also, Indiana Jones was a HUUUGE crush, and I don't know how they spelled his nickname (Indy?) but I like that it reminds me of him as well. :)

  6. She's just beautiful! I think she looks very much like you Lisa, particularly her eyes and eyebrows. But she looks a lot like J too. They're both adorable. India - such a pretty name.

    So wonderful!

  7. I think they look very much alike, although I can see you and your mom in India [the second picture particularly] and his father in Jordan.

Neither of them resembles that nasty statue baby, as they both look lovely but in different ways. I agree India seems to have a lot of mischief in her in these photos.

I did notice that the names were also the names of countries, but I thought it was subtle and kind of cool. it's not as though you'd named them for places like Brooklyn and the Bronx, for goodness sake. Just gave them beautiful names that are also the names of countries and they happen to be places that mean something to you. Way cool.

  8. I think your beautiful children look very much alike. And their names are fabulous.

  9. I second what the other Lynn says. And gosh what a nice post to wake up to. Your children are beautiful. The best of both of you.

  10. Oh, aren't these two nuggets of yours adorable?! They do look alike, but I bet they will grow into their own. Nature just has them looking like Nick to convince him you weren't spending too much time with the mailman. Ha.

Jordan is an awesome name for obvious reasons. The hubby's niece is named Jordan so there's even more of a "likeability factor" for it around our house. And India is a great name! I have a friend who has a 12 month old named India as well and then of course there's the beautiful India Hicks. She'll probably hate it because that's what kids do (and it's payback time for everything we did to our parents, right? At least that's what my mom always tells me...) but then if she does, she'll turn around and love it. I love the chunkiness! Makes me wanna squeeze squeeze her! I hope I get a photo of her stuffed into the green dino costume on Halloween (although she probably won't fit it, no? She's a bit older than J was). That was my all time favorite of little Jordan!

    xoxo

  11. They do look very much alike, but India looks a lot more girlish, if that makes sense. She has more feminine features, whereas Jordan has a boy face. Both are absolutely adorable and squishy-cute, of course. :)

Tell me about it.
