No sleep till Brooklyn. Or, you know, Bogota or Iqaluit or Quito.

A few weeks ago, Nick took the liberty of setting a number of world clocks on my iPad.

This past weekend, he realized there was space for so many more cities! Cities I've been to, and cities I'd never heard of! Acton? Iqualuit?

I know these are not great photos. You can, however, embiggen them for details. And size counts for something, no?

Local time first. Alphabetical from there:

  1. I had no idea Easter Island was in this time zone. Fascinating! (you don't have to tell Nick I said so).

    1. But it's not. I don't understand. Why do they all say the same time??? Has Nick managed to get your iPad to defy the laws of physics? Because that would be truly impressive.

    2. I had no idea either...and didn't even question until your comment! But! I just googled, and it looks like it actually is: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=914

So no defying of physics, which would be a very cool secret superhero skill.

    3. I don't know or understand much about time zones, but I do know that Easter Island is part of Chile, and although they have the same time now, when we go into summer time (forward? back? I never remember) they go into winter time (and do the opposite of whatever we do)they'll be two hours behind (and Santiago will be the same time.)

    4. Weird... but it makes sense now that I've looked it up.

It has to do with the fact that Easter Island is Chilean territory, so it's time is based on that (shifted two hours), and how Chile does Daylight Saving Time. That puts Easter Island on US Eastern time for part of the year.

      Fun.

    5. LaCure - yes, I knew it was part of Chile but I suppose far enough west to be on a different time zone than Santiago.

VVK - Wait, but the island and the country are on different times, right? I mean, from each other, not just from us.

    6. Yes, it's two hours behind Chile... but being in the southern hemisphere, their DST shift is the opposite of ours, so part of the year our hour shift one way, and their hour shift the other way suddenly make things line up with eastern time.

    7. That's very cool to know! Kind of how the water swirls the opposite direction going down the drain?! :)

  2. You can also do this on the iPhone. I added a bunch of cities on the world clock. Amusing yet practical!
